Thursday Comic!! I hope everyone's having a good week!

And this is why I was quick to point out that we haven't seen Beth eating the brains... John's not actually going to let her!

This comic specifically references this comic in which R.Z. offered John half the brains if he ever found a human. Apparently John agreed, and has chosen to stick to his bargain.

In other news, I did a Car Seat clinic today. I really enjoy them because some of the people who come in didn't know how to properly install it, and it's unsafe. I like knowing that if they did get in a bad accident, their child is a LOT more likely to survive because of my help... If you have some free time and you want to feel better about yourself, volunteering is the way to go :)

And, in a bit of serendipity, one of the ladies who helps to run the clinic is an OPP auxiliary officer, which is something that I've wanted to do for a while now. I was hesitant because I was concerned I would have to miss several days of work a month to accommodate the mandatory training, but she said that it was only once a month for her, so that's awesome ( I was thinking every week or every two weeks, both of which would have been painful if I couldn't switch shifts...) AND she's willing to be a reference to me when I do apply, so that's pretty awesome :D I'll be getting that done soon, methinks.

If you have an opinion on the new layout, please let me know... We get less money because of the lack of so many square ads, but I like the look of the 1 skyscraper ad a lot better. It just means I might have to dunk some money into an advertising fund instead of paying it from proceeds of our own advertising... Sometime, maybe... That's the good part with a comic that you plan to keep doing... It doesn't have to be super popular today, and if we do manage to get popular later, it just means a bigger archive to entice people with ;)

Sooooo. You may notice that the first two panels suck. Well, you're right! Let's just say I was having a huge issue. See, I've recently had to reinstall windows, which meant of course reinstalling photoshop. Well, for some reason, I wasn't able to draw straight lines for the life of me! I was very very frustrated with this, but I had to draw any way because time was ticking! In order to get any semblance of a non-wobbly line, I had to draw zoomed in to around 300%. Now normally I work at 5000 x 2445 at 300 dpi, so you can imagine how gigantic this is. Needless to say, my proportions ended up way off. Sort of like how I was drawing a while ago.

So after two panels, I had had enough of this BS, I managed to figure out my wobbly line problem (it was an erroneous roundness jitter that has somehow been left on and missed entirely), but by that point it was too late to go back and redraw the first two panels. So I just plugged on, and here we have it!

I promise the next one will be better!

Still looks pretty good to me, and I see
the pot handle is visible, cuz we don't want people complaining about not being able to see it.
Skrael (I'm the artist)
Oh yes Mo, the pot handle is visible. :)

I'm still wondering if brains can go bad. But even if they can, it apparently isn't a major deterrent. Which is gross. I keep comparing it to using expired ground beef in tacos or something in my head.
Eternal_Phantom edit delete reply
Actually I'm kinda impressed with John that that was his reasoning. That he would remember but honor his pact with RZ is touching.

OPP? Ontario Provincial Police, or...?
RedJar edit delete reply
What did Beth take out of the brains in panel 2? A rock? A bug? A chunk of skull?

Yes, these questions puzzle me.
Danny (Guest) edit delete reply
LTRFTW delurking. The images in the first two panels are beautiful, Beth in that puffy jacket looks really very sexy, but I have a thing for the Tudors.
Skrael (I'm the artist)
@linden - I think it depends on how you view "gone bad"

@Eternal_Phantom - Me too. I'd actually forgotten about this until it was presented to me for drawing.

@RedJar - I sort of drew her rubbing it between her fingers, maybe just to test the quality of it like oil or something?

@Danny - Thanks for saying so :)

Fermented Brains!
Magravan edit delete reply
@Linden - I don't think that they'd be as good fresh brains, but like Beth said, they aren't known for being picky ;)

@Eternal_Phantom - I agree :) It's one of John's redeeming traits, that he treats R.Z. decently, instead of as a lower class, as Chad is prone to doing..

@CVB - Indeed! I've said a couple times in past Author Notes that I am trying to become a police officer. Right now I'm just waiting for the timer to run out on a rejection from last year, and then I'm going to apply to several... But as there is a very good chance that I will be turned down again, I would love to do the Auxiliary as a backup... I've done a ride along before, and while I realize that I was likely spared some of the downsides of the job by virtue of not being a trained officer, I really enjoyed my time there.

@RedJar - A piece of brains, I think...

@Danny - Thanks for delurking! It's always great to hear from people :D By Tudors do you mean the show? Or is that a type of jacket?

@the_brigand - Oh god, can you imagine R.Z. intoxicated? Yikes :D
Lunaroki edit delete reply
Yeah, but think about Beth intoxicated! I'll bet she'd be a fun drunk. ;)
Magravan edit delete reply
Most of them drunk would probably be pretty funny to see... Except Sylene, who I could imagine just passing out, for some reason..
Skrael (I'm the artist)
I think Sylene would be an angry drunk .. one that sloshes her drink all around and throws up all over your bathroom before passing out on tour balcony.

ok, granted, its gross...
but why doesn't he just look away and let her get it over with? why is he pestering her about it? why does he care some much if she eats that brains?

mmm... I wonder if he is a clone of the dead person... I think the zombie ruler was trying to provide their society with a future by cloning humans...
Magravan edit delete reply
I thought that his reasoning for stopping her was made clear in this one? He's stopping her because he made a deal with R.Z., not because he thinks it's gross. Though, he does think it's gross. Eww.

so far so good, i have some concerns about where this is going...she knows that thomas (john) is human, if she eats the brains and feels the "extacy" she mentioned that TOGM doesn't givewith thomas (john) right there would she not go into a frenzy? think of it like a crack addict comes clean for 6 months then cas crack introduced to his system, wouldn't he crave more to get that hight again?
Magravan edit delete reply
Well, first off, in your example, our crack addict isn't clean... He's been on diet crack for years :)

And then he gets a very bad .. batch? of crack classic...

I'm guessing that said crackhead would go blissfully back to diet crack, and possibly never try crack classic again :D

Another great comic, and the handle is back :P , but then again, if the only thing wrong with the last comic was a pot handle then it must have been a great comic, but I do like this comic, handle or no handle :) keep up the great work.
Magravan edit delete reply
Haha! Yeah, I think she was rather diligent about the handle this time around :D

Thanks for the compliments, I'm glad you're enjoying the comic!
the_brigand (Guest) edit delete reply
well, if you guys never though about drunk zombies before... :)

how about a nice Braindy(brandy), eh?
Magravan edit delete reply
Bwahahaha... I wouldn't be surprised if you actually some someone marketing Braindy these days ;)
RedJar edit delete reply
Now I have to wonder how the brains' consistancy affects its quality. Quite the descerning eye she's turning on it.
Magravan edit delete reply
Guessing it's a connoisseur thing ;) Like sniffing the wine beforehand...
3.1 (Guest) edit delete reply
If she eats those brains everyone above her is going to get a little boost-and everyone above RZ too. This is not good.
Skrael (I'm the artist)
oh there you are 3.1! I was wondering where you'd gone to! Welcome back :)
Magravan edit delete reply
@3.1 - Wow, that's a good thought :) I don't think that anyone would able to say "This is where it stops! It must have been her who ate the brains!" though.. :)
model S (Guest) edit delete reply
sorry i haven't had time to reply back.

that's a very good point, i didn't think of it that way, but the point i was making was the extacy she mentioned, i guess bad brains wouldn't cause it... but i was just thinking thomas PROBABLY shouldn't stand too close when she takes a bite.
Lunaris_Starchilde edit delete reply
i can't imagine this being her first time eating "fermented" brains. You have to think, in the early days of Enlightenment, when humans became more and more scarce, they must have done things like raid semataries (hehe) to get their hands on some cured/fermented/jerkied brains. I wonder what the Brain of the Unknown Soldier tasted like...
Magravan edit delete reply
@model S - No worries, I appreciate that you took the time to reply at all :) I agree that John might not want to be present when the brains are eaten... For several reasons ;)

@Lunaris_Starchilde - It would actually be her first time eating fermented brains... Beth, that is.. She only ever ate two people's brains, and they were fresh... Other zombies, on the other hand, have likely eaten questionable brains... Especially Chad... I can see him as being the grave robber type.
