TOGM Time!!

Well, Sylene seems to have found the silver lining to realizing that someone might have been lying to her all this time...

You may recall, if you read the last author's note, that I was pretty excited about how my title worked out. It came to me in a flash of inspiration, and I was pretty darn pleased with myself...

This title is clearly the other end of the spectrum. No inspiration, though, admittedly, I had a lot less time to let this one fester before having to name it. I was soooooo tired yesterday that I literally got home, grabbed a glass of juice and then gave June a kiss where she was on the couch before heading upstairs for bed. And then I slept AND not only hit snooze, but actually reprogrammed the clock ahead like 20 minutes so I wouldn't get interrupted once.

Basically, the night before, I had gone to bed around 1am-ish, slept until about 3am-ish, got startled awake and couldn't go back to sleep. So I basically got 2 hours of sleep that night, and then did another 12 hour shift (3rd of 4), so at the end of the day, I was exhausted.

That's a pretty extensive excuse for a lousy title, don't you think? It was actually going to be the title, but I couldn't fit in, even at 8px. Ba-dum-tsshh. There's my title joke.

Oh, in other news, I signed up for a sleep study thingy.. One of the people at my work is also a Undergrad Psych student who happens to be doing his thesis. So, I volunteered to wear a watch-like contraption that studies my sleeping schedule... So I will be an anonymous part of someone's thesis! Not quite as good as having done my own, but contributing to the advancement of science (and more importantly, to the advancement of a friend's grade point average!) is pretty cool :D

tl;dr - None of it was important, moving along :D

Oh, Ferix posted a funny reimagining of the last comic here. and we posted a new vote incentive that will show a vital background character who will probably be peppered throughout TOGM for some time to come... :D

I think that sometime we'll have to ask for some help in getting TOGM into the top 100.. Even if we don't stay there forever, it'll be pretty cool :D

I don't write books for comments, James does.
I will mention this spot of good news, though. I've been lucky enough to have been granted an extention on my course in school, as I missed the December 16 2010 deadline due to my illness/surgery/recovery. I'm really happy and grateful for that! I not have until March 7 to complete my course, including two exams. I am certain that I can do it!
I finished a T Shirt design this weekend, and worked on another, drew a scene of a zombie from a friend's up and coming novel (hope he doesn't mind me sharing it) and I worked on the Beth Haseo picture for Model_S.

Here's a that zombie that I imagined as I was reading my friend's story:
PS it's not finished, I didn't even draw his arms or anything yet!

What else, what else? There is nothing else.

Oh! I laughed my ass off at Ferix's thing. It is definitely a WTF read.

I think what's funnier about this comic is the Phantom assuming John knows who he is... XD

Really nice expression on Sylene in that final panel. I can see her teasing Beth for a while, doing the whole "I know something you don't know" thing... or I hope that's what she does. Then again, it's Sylene... she may just come right out and tell Beth. Sylene doesn't strike me as all that subtle...

Oh, great, it's been years since I've heard that song, and you instantly got the lyrics stuck in me head! >_<
bbedlam might be a fan of Sylene in the last panel, but for me, nah, it's the Phantom which does it. I'm a sucker for facepalms. :P
Magravan edit delete reply
@Linden - I don't think that things are going to go the way the Phantom imagines they will :)

@bbedlam - Sylene is definitely not one for subtlety ;) However, the next comic might affect how long it takes for her to discuss it with Beth :D

@ranger_brian_new - Whatever floats your boat ;) I prefer Sylene myself.

Hmm...I suppose it is possible that John/Thomas has been merely acting this whole time...

As well, this is going to bring a very cool psychological aspect to the whole thing: if Thomas truly lost his memory, then the memories he's since made have created a new person, John, who is not the same. What if he recovers his memory, and Thomas doesn't like zombies? Hates them, even? (Not likely, given his association with the Phantom, but it's more the principle I'm arguing anyway) John clearly does like zombies, more than likes them, even - which would raise an interesting question: is John or Thomas the true person? I'd personally argue that they're both their own people, but I think it could be a very intellectual and meaningful tangent.

I'd also like to say that you really shouldn't assume that your post is too long for people to be bothered reading, and to an extent you mustn't as you still post the entire length. That said, far be it from me to conduct your affairs for you, and your choice of particulars is definitively your choice (as well, I'm not really one to tell somebody else they should be less automatically apologetic) but I just think it's interesting to see you apologize for the length of your statements, yet publish those statements regardless. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to do, or a good thing to do, but I do find it intriguing.

On a somewhat related note, I'd like to apologize for my overuse of the word 'interesting' in this spiel, there aren't many alternatives, however...

There, even I succumb to the point I was making: apology, justification, and publish regardless of any of those factors.

I like the Metallica zombie...you don't get much more metal than that!

Sylenes face in that last panel is just brilliant and creepy! D:
Magravan edit delete reply
@Jrade - I intend to delve into that somewhat soon anyways... More of a personal reflection than what you mean though... Does the fact that he only really remembers being John mean that he's John, or should he consider himself Thomas despite not really remembering being him?

And I don't really see the apology, though I may have.. The tl;dr portion is for people who want to just see the gist of it without reading through. When I do apologize though, it's because I have a tendency to write too much :D

But you're right, I apologize and I keep doing it anyways :)

@Lewis T - I liked it too, it sets up the next scene perfectly :D

hmmh. deffinately getting better with the faces. the writing is still superb. great work.
Magravan edit delete reply
Thank you :D I didn't think the writing was all that great :)
Ferix edit delete reply
Oh god I cant stop myself why

So, im starting to think that the zombies level of intelligence is really more a ratio of how much like a person they are and...not REALLY how smart.

Sylene: Not a whole lot goin on up there

how is your comic not exactly this?
<img src="http://www.topatoco.com/graphics/00000001/qc-think.jpg" alt="QC Zombies" />
seems kind of a ripoff. not bad, just feels like a carbon copy. sorry.
ranger_brianna_new edit delete reply
Someone apparently hasn't read more than one or two comics.
Skrael (I'm the artist)
@QC-Naut We rather like that shirt. James bought one for himself last year when we met Jeph Jaques :) So far as a rip off, I don't think it's a rip off at all. In addition, Jeph already knows I (poorly) attempt to model my art after his, he laughed when I told him. :)
Magravan edit delete reply
@Ferix - I don't think that Sylene is using her full potential ;)

@QC-Naut - If you consider our comic a rip off of that shirt, then I guess you could probably consider Jeph having ripped off JoCo, or vice versa...

Given the fact that our zombies are attractive, however, it doesn't lend much credibility to a carbon copy of Jeph's shirt ;)

@ranger_brian_new - People are going to hate.. What are you going to do?

@Skrael - That's the shirt I met JoCo in too :D
3.4 (Guest) edit delete reply
This is the kind of logic you get from most three's unfortunately. I on the other hand exude an aura of insanity and am unable to NOT end up somehow annoying or disterbing others. 'Stop it! Shut up!!!!...there it goes.' The worst part is that wasn't RPing. Regardless, I'm guessing this Sargent here is a 4 (duh).

Hmmm....wait....a few pages ago...Sylene thought he had called here there for a booty call...but zombies don't uhmmmm...rise to the occasion? What would...I mean...uh...how would they...yeah, that!
Magravan edit delete reply
Seems that Beth's not the only one who has been affected by John's ... presence ;)
3.4 (Guest) edit delete reply
@Magravan-WAIT WHAT?!!! You know what I don't wanna know. I'm not gonna ask again! Don't tell me! I don't wanna fricking know!
Archaeron (Guest) edit delete reply
One must really wonder at this, I mean; RZ is a two, and hes FAR brighter than Sylene is, are we really sure Sylene is a three? And not like a one and a bit in a REALLY good disguise? :o

BTW, Hi, first comment on here, loving your comic! :D Keep up the lolz please! :D
Magravan edit delete reply
@3.4 - I think John's going to start a cult later with zombie girls all being like *drool* :)

@Archaeron - I don't see Sylene as particularly dumb... She's just got her own way of looking at things... She is probably lower on the 3 scale than others, but personality has something to do with it. She's certainly not living up to her potential, but that's due to preoccupation ;D
hagelander (Guest) edit delete reply
I don't think john has many option, he eats the girls, or they eat him
Magravan edit delete reply
lol... :P I think they'd enjoy the latter option more ;)
Albear (Guest) edit delete reply
LMAO, love the 'I have an evil plan' face that Sylene is making at the end, its so deliciously evil :D
Magravan edit delete reply
It sets up the next scene well, I think ;)
