Well, it seems yet another person has fallen off Robert's grid... There's something in this one that may or may not be obvious. I guess we'll see what people figure out..

Times like this, I kind of miss the forum, because I would be fairly certain that Romero84 would be there with an interesting guess, even if it wasn't wholly accurate :)

Anyway, we had a friend lose his job in a pretty crappy way, so I feel bad for him :/ Also, we are adopting a new kitty... We still haven't decided 100% on the name, but she's pretty adorable... When we were holding her at the shelter, she was purring away like crazy... Here's hoping that Rahne gets along with her :)

Annnd on that note, have a great week everyone! We'll see you on Thursday :)

Yes I know that Chad's SUV is supposed to be reflecting on the side of Robert's Limo, but I just couldn't get the reflection to look convincing.. so I apologize if it seems to be an oversight. I did try, however. Any tips for how I might achieve this in the future?

Oh man, I never thought the aluminum foil would ever work!
bbedlam edit delete reply
It's good that the abductionists have been validated and tinfoil really does block the signal. I'm sure UFO fans will be very happy to know that.

Also, very nice rust effects on the interior of the truck. Really a nice detail there :)
Skrael (I'm the artist)
Thank you bbedlam! I was quite proud of that metal wall. I painted the rust on myself with a brush even :P

so THAT'S how they disable the trackers. by taping tinfoil onto the back of their necks! .... that's ... kinda .... i'm sure it's wrong but meh.

I'll remember the next time I wanna sneak out the house. Momma won't find me no more!
Frosty edit delete reply
Haha :D
Martian Samurai edit delete reply
I think the fact that he is surrounded by metal walls might have more to do with his signal being blocked. I have had trouble with cell phone signals when inside metal structures or thick walls.
Magravan edit delete reply
@Linden - In my research, apparently there is some basis in truth, as certain signals are blocked by tinfoil which creates .. some cage effect that I've forgotten...

@bbedlam - That's me, writing definitive proof to help out the abductionists... :)

@Drivinallnight - Thank you :)

@model S - Maaaybe :D

@Darkond2100 - Moms come equipped with extra sensors that see through tin foil... It's a thing that they do ;)

@Frosty - I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

@Martian Samurai - Well, whatever's going on, it seems to have worked :)
JakeS (Guest) edit delete reply
It's called a Faraday cage. It's the same effect that makes lighting go through your car's chassis instead of through you if it hits your car.

It's actually quite hard to kill a cell phone signal entirely (you can't do it with tin foil in the real world), but being in a closed metal van would plausibly dampen it enough to make it disappear if their towers are cheap enough.

The other thing I notice is that Alexander is covering himself in tinfoil from head to toe. This shows that he does not know precisely where the implants are.
Martian Samurai edit delete reply
Alexander was probably planning this for a while, why else would he have the foil handy? He might even have been cooperating with the Phantom for an evac.

That expression. Panel three.
T.Gatto edit delete reply
Drat, Foiled Again!

What happens if he has to pee, while wearing the foil, and for that matter do zombies (who have to eat) ever need to go? Too many questions!
snoog (Guest) edit delete reply
Is Alexander the officer who worked with chad?
I don't remember him at all.
Magravan edit delete reply
@JakeS - Ahhhh, that's sad, I should have remembered that... Faraday's stuff was the basis for our DC motor in physics...

According to what I read, some signals are reduced while others are amplified... Of course, I wouldn't say that I did a crazy amount of research on it ;)

@Martian Samurai - I'm glad that you picked up on the fact that he doesn't know where it is... And the foil was just off some shelves...

@Tsarmina Silvertrap - :D

@T.Gatto - The zombies don't have to pee, no. At best, it would be a "Hey look at how human I am!" thing.

@snoog - Alexander was the original leader of the PSOs, found as a head in Robert's room in 100. He has been in it primarily with Chad and Beth lately.

You know...Robert looks just like Rhett from Rhett & Link. Just felt the need to say it.
Skrael (I'm the artist)
He is exactly supposed to look like Rhett :D That means I've been drawing him ok, yay! :D Rhett gave me his blessings personally to use his likeless for Robert in the comic.

I was operating under the assumption that the zombie location network was based on gps tracking.... my gps gets blocked if it is in the wrong part of the car (away from the windows.)

if it really is just tinfoil on the back of their neck that turns it off then it'd be pretty easy to knock it off the one that ate tomas hiding in the sand would have come off from the heat and sand scratching holes in it as well as sand getting under the tape. so in all logical sense, that makes no sense.
Magravan edit delete reply
@J2383 - I think you made her day for appreciating the reference :)

@Martian Samurai - Haha, well, ideally this is a more robust system :)

@model S - That would be pretty funny :D "Wait, all this time it's just been taped to the back of our necks? Really? Damn."
model S edit delete reply
model S
exactly, and that's why it needs to be in a guest strip. -starts drawing- -fails- CURSE YOU BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!
Hornet (Guest) edit delete reply
Bloody hell Model S, Can you make that convoluted spiral of a comment any tighter. You're killing me here.

But anyway this proves conspiracy theroiest are right. As for the gps signal being blocked this easily the comic must be taking place in the US our wireless network suxs.
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
Why has Robert's speech font changed? (Compare to his recent encounter with Beth.)
model S edit delete reply
model S
what do you mean hornet? that made perfect sense. you're just not crazy enough to understand it.

@aok: he's no longer speaking in all caps i think cause people always commented they thought he was always yelling.
Magravan edit delete reply
@model S - Curse you Buzz Lightyear, everyone.

@Hornet - Haha :D I don't think that we've stated exactly where it is at this point, because what the name of the place that it used to be is kind of pointless now.

@aok666 - I screwed up :) It's one of many strips that I have to fix, unfortunately. But it's great that you noticed!

@model S - Uhhh no. He's not speaking in that font because I forgot that I was supposed to use that font for him ;)
model S edit delete reply
model S
oh. ... you could have taken my answer and run with it, and made it not look like a screw up >.> just saying.
Magravan edit delete reply
But then I would have to keep it the wrong way overall, which is not condusive to what I'm trying to do by using separate fonts to show different methods of talking :)
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
Hmm, that reminds me: I know the One/Two voice style is gravelly, but what does the Five style sound like? (I assume the Three/Four is "normal")
Magravan edit delete reply
The five voice sounds powerful... Sort of like James Earl Jones in the fact that when the man speaks, people listen. Not exactly like his voice, but just that powerful, resonating presence...
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
Never heard James Earl Jones - or if I have, I didn't know it was James Earl Jones (not totally sure who he is TBH!). But a commanding-presence sort of voice is easy to imagine.
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
BTW, we've seen a Four (Beth) speak in a One/Two voice style: http://togm.webcomic.ws/comics/80/
("It brings all the boys to the yard")
so presumably Fives can speak in the Three/Four style? Maybe Robert was speaking Four-style to try and calm down the panicking switchboard person?
Magravan edit delete reply
@aok666 - He did the voice for Darth Vader in the original stories.. He was also Thulsa Doom in Conan ;D And while Beth was mimicing the gravely style of the Ones/Twos, I'll be changing the text for that page at some point :D
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
Changing the words or the font?
Bayne edit delete reply
Well, I just spent the best part of an evening reading this from the start. Love it :P
the_brigand (Guest) edit delete reply
I'm saddened that people are growing up not knowing who James Earl Jones is.
Stephen Walker (Guest) edit delete reply
Finally caught up in this comic! My phone will soon run out of battery! Just wanted to exist! I also wanted to know where second John (Thomas?) came from! Thanks!

fortunado1972 (Guest) edit delete reply
Could it be Lead foil? I think that blocks cell/RF reception.. of course it does not make as great an introduction as "Tin man"
Magravan edit delete reply
@aok666 - Some I have to fix bubbles, some I have to fix fonts, some I have to re-letter so the backgrounds are the same as the current ones ;)

Oh, and I should probably go through and replace all those "wont"s with "won't"s :D

@the_brigand - I think he was also the murderous dictator on House? But it's been a while, so I could be misremembering...

@Stephen Walker - Well, John was rescued from Robert's lab. Thomas was a friend of Robert's who was also in his lab.

@fortunado1972 - Yeah, the Lead Foil Man sounds like a hero from the ... well, from the Lead Age of Comics :P Not that the Silver or Golden Age were necessarily immune to horrible ideas.. :D
idd (Guest) edit delete reply
James Earl Jones has a sonorous voice. When he talks he can put that little bit of extra magic and the sound bounces around in your skull. The guy who played Darth Vader was really upset that they over dubbed his voice for those shots, and of course I can't remember his name.
Magravan edit delete reply
I'd be pissed too... until I realized that it was James Earl Jones doing it and then I'd be impressed that someone out there might think that it was my voice for a minute :P
