Hey everyone, hope you had a great weekend!

First up, I'm uploading a .jpg at 70% quality this time. The .png was over a meg, and this one came in at under half... So... does anyone notice a major difference in quality?

Secondly, mushroomisland provided us with some fanart which I put up on Saturday. Go back one to check it out!

Thirdly, have a great week!

First time that I see the "Post a comment" link gone at the bottom :)

Anywho, I just see a tad of difference between quality, not enough to be disappointed, though ;)

Great facial expressions, June.
I love the torment Robert's in. *evil grin*

To Misquote a Sergio Aragones strip;

"No one will laugh at me at this year's mad scientist convention! Of course this year I will be wearing pants!"

I'd say Robert is not far from the deep end.

That last panel ..I wish I could draw like Ofools (Gods Almighty) .. I think that Robert would have been done well in her style there ;)

So it's just as well that Thomas hid his notes so well, then?
Sooner or later, Robert will discover that John has a head full of TOGM... and then the sewage treatment works will hit the wind farm!
the mad one (Guest) edit delete reply
yes, this one is 70% less funny.. just kidding.

Nope, don't notice much of a difference.

@Dremen - John's driving him crazy :)

@MatthewJA - That's going to be an awesome list when you're done :P

@Muchacho NL - I can't explain it, my knowledge of website design isn't good enough. I have no clue why sometimes it shows up and sometimes it doesn't.

@T.Gatto - Showing up with pants is all that keeps him sane :D

@Skrael - Haha :) Fools might have drawn him burning John in a furnace though ;)

Oh, and quick question: why did Robert keep Thomas human instead of making very certain that Thomas became one of the highest Fours?

I originally had been uploading Lord of Maelstrom in PNG format, but over time individual strips got longer and longer, so I started upload in JPEG format.

Thankfully, GIMP has functionality to control the JPEG codec's compression parameters, so I was able to tweak it.

I eventually settled upon this set of parameters, which provide superior compression to PNG, while also providing near-lossless quality:

Quality: 98%
Smoothing: 0.00
Subsampling: 4:4:4 (best quality)
DCT Method: Integer
Optimize: enabled
Progressive: enabled

Not sure if you use Photoshop or anything for the comic, but it should (in theory) have those options available.

Perhaps Thomas holds the cure for when Robert's bored with his Zombienation and turn them all back human?

the truth is roberts a robot and we are about to see a system meltdown due to logic conundrum
as far as graphic's it just seems a shade lighter
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
A lot about Robert is given away in his very first line: "I always thought a Utopia would not have power outages." (Strip 27, number 48 on the list, "Damn Utopian Utilities Company")

And back to my reasons that this lab should be called "Zee Lab!"
T.Gatto edit delete reply
How come they always write stuff like "SUPER HIGH SECURITY" on a place that's supposed to have super high security? Why not a sign that reads "Sewage Waste Disposal", with a plain door? No one would go in there.

Then write "SUPER HIGH SECURITY" on the Sewage Waste Disposal room, with a fancy door, and put a 1 way door on, that will teach those interlopers. ;)
Skrael (I'm the artist)
T Gatto: Because funny.

aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
The Twos probably can't read well anyway, and Robert is secure in the knowledge that he can deal with anyone who tries to break into his high-security labs.

@aok666 - A variety of factors, most of which were based on Thomas bein difficult to get at first, and then Robert wanting to keep him from that.

@Zauber Paracelsus - I had a bunch of options, but the file size was so large for the png that I thought I'd test and see what kind of loss we were experiencing with something that was considerably lower on the file size.

@Muchacho NL - If he does.... Oops.

@neon5162 - The truth is EVERYONE's a robot! Only RZ knows the truth :O

@aok666 - Yes, yes it does. Granted, that entire strip was written pretty much because June hadn't done any art for that one ;)

@Kao Condettori - It would certainly make things easier when explaining, but Robert has standards!

@T.Gatto - Twos would pick the wrong door anyway ;)

@aok666 - That is true, yep. The big imposing door works to keep out most people, and anyone who isn't kept out can be dealt with.

Just eat his brain Robert, if it tastes like TOGM you know its not him.

@Magravan: "Oops"?
That's not covered in your script?

Which make me wonder: Do you (like me with my novell) have a general script set up, and write the details and situations as you're going along, or is everything already predefined, and you're just writing out the 'script' for June so she can draw them, one comic update at a time?
Magravan edit delete reply
@Feartheswans - You're not allowed to be the Testing Safety person if I ever have my own mad scientist lab o.O

@Muchacho NL - I meant more Oops for them, in the sense that if that were the case, they aren't going to be pulling that one off! (On Account of Thomas being a One...)

The story is defined as "What do I want to accomplish in this section?" Part 1 was establishing the routines, showing the world, giving the ideas and giving John a base of operations. Part 2 was basically set up to show John's quest for identity, and that ultimately it doesn't matter, since Thomas himself died. Part 3 was focused on Chad, the role of the PSOs, and setting up the factory and things of that nature. Part 4 is about discovering the factory, some of the secrets behind the locked doors, and ... stuff that will be shown before the end of the chapter ;)

Within those basic ideas, I try to write scripts that give story progression while also allowing the occasional humour... I look at it as having 75 strips to start a segment, explore it a little, and then end it off. Sometimes it works out better than others.

Everything in between is fairly mutable though, in the sense that each individual script is created as we go.

tl;dr - There's an overarching plan that we try to hit various things along the way, but it's made up as we go so far as strip to strip.

I love it when you stump a smart person and they get so flustered :D
Magravan edit delete reply
It's not very fun to be on the other side of that ;)

I'm starting to like Robert, can't help but feel its unintentional but he's giving me the giggles.
Magravan edit delete reply
Why do you feel it's unintentional?
