Hey guys! Hope everyone had a great New Years, and if you missed it, June posted an image, feel free to hit the back button and check it out ;D

I had to do a lot of text editing to this one, breaking up the lines and putting them into the next section... I think that when we hit 150, I might try dropping the font size down to 18 or something... 24 is taking up TOO much space...

Oh... Does anyone want to see art that I actually drew? With my HAND?! And then scanned in and now it looks more sucky? Well, if you answered yes to that (and how could you not?), I will give you a link to my picture for Leiko of Fake Knight, who had the unfortunate luck to get me as their Secret Santa for the Comicfury Secret Santa 2010! Check it out!

I know, I'm going to have to tuck it away. I'm pretty sure I can trade it for someone's first born someday.... Like the Penguin, or some other misshapen beast.

June did one too, so she might post her recipient as well ;) Hers, as you might have guessed, is actually good :)

Oh, and OneCanOfSprite finally got Gmod back and started his new comic, Super Scout Boy. When I told him that I spent WAAAAY too much time on a game design program in the past (Neverwinter Nights, to be precise), he went and did the only logical thing... He bought me Gmod. Never has a gift made me waver between being grateful and wanting to strangle someone as much as this one. Fortunately, I tried it, and it's confusing as all heck, so I'll likely be able to avoid losing too much time to it for at least a little while :) Seriously though, thanks again OCOS...

Oh, one more thing to mention before I sign off... One of the best parts about making this comic is the time I get to spend dreaming up the world and the events that go on... I was enjoying my mental theatre of a scene that will be mentioned in the next comic.. I don't know if we'll get an opportunity to properly explore it now, but it just let me reflect on how much I enjoy sharing this world with you guys.

Thanks for reading!

tl;dr - READ IT ALL, DAMMIT! ... Fine.

Go back 1 for a New Years poster, I made fan art for Leiko, OneCanOfSprite bought me Gmod and is making a new comic, Super Scout Boy with it.

Edit: We got reviewed! fcwebcomics.wordpress.com/2011/01/01/review-the-other-grey-meat/

I'm probably more excited than your guys will be, but it's a nice review :D

Here is my secret santa, posted on TanteiSakana's fan art page! journ.thecomicseries.com/fanart/

PS sorry for crappy art again.

I really want the font size smaller, that way James can put more text in.

Huh? I thought maybe you were correcting a typo in the comic, but if you are, I can't find it.
greengirl77 (Guest) edit delete reply
I see no typos. I read the review. Quite frankly I think the art goes perfectly with the way the story is, it is a comic, the art should be simple. I don't think that going into realist detail in a cartoon is necessary. It is perfect as it is, and it is great. Keep up the good work in my opinion.

PS, haha on the glasses comment and I love the smoke in front of his face. You two are truly awesome.
Skrael (I'm the artist)
Thank you GreenGirl, for your encouragement :) I appreciate hearing that I don't always have to strive for "perfect" hehe
greengirl77 (Guest) edit delete reply
Striving for other's ideas of perfect is silly. Everyone has an idea in their head of what something should be like. This is your creation. What you put forth is what it is and how it should look. Considering your comic's popularity I would say you ARE doing a perfect job.

yep. glasses make you a genius. it's a scientific fact!

@Magravan: I have to say that the second-last panel of your secret santa gift comic filled me with equal amounts fear and happiness.
Magravan edit delete reply
@greengirl77 - I didn't see any either, so I'm not sure what his comment means ;)

@model S - I think that he was implying that he's not very fashionable with them on :D

@MarshmallowGherkin - Is it because you can't tell which emotion he's conveying? I tried to take inspiration from a similar scene in Fake Knight, but I'm not as good at drawing as they are, so my effort didn't work out as well :D

You want's me to go get Guido and take this guy out to the swamp? ;) Remember Friends will help you out and Good Friends help you hide the bodies.

Actually I think he misses the point of your art as far as I can see it. I think one of the reasons you use the bright colors is this is not a blood and guts zombie horror comic. Which is why I enjoy this much more than average Zombie stuff. You have interactions going on there and a storyline beyond "more brains." Charles M. Shultz just had the round headed kid, a funky beagle, and a yellow bird. Shultz's is one of the most acclaimed comic creator's of a generation, however not everyone likes or appreciates his work. If the art conveys its part of the story it is not crappy, however the writing...what's with that? ;)

Glasses are totally a convincing argument! I mean, just look at my avatar! :P

But yeah, I am making my comic again. If Magravan likes it, surely it must be good!

well still. my arguement works too, sylene is a 3 she'd believe it.

I think you guys are being a little harsh on the review! We still have a lot of room for improvement... The reason why I enjoyed this review was that it was not all sunshine and lollipops, and acknowledged that we had areas that we had to work on while still generally being a positive review :)

@Jamming - There's really no excuse for the writing ;)

@ranger_brian_new - Definitely not a fashion designer ;)

@Onecanofsprite - Yep... Not sure how much it'll help, but hopefully some people check it out :D

@model S - That's a valid point. I'll settle for my less intelligent, non-glassed countenance :)

@Magravan - I don't have a problem with creative art criticism, my problem is with destructive criticism. I felt that it was unfair to the spirit of the art here. Criticism is negative enough in its own nature that it does not need terms like "crappy" or other such modifiers. I mean good criticism does not need to have terms that are scatological in nature. IMO

wait, so... TOGM makes cigars? is there TOGM rum too?
Remus (Guest) edit delete reply
Cigars? no those are cuban, and the rum...... WHY IS THE RUM ALWAYS GONE?!?!
model S (Guest) edit delete reply
haha you still need to put me up in the live action section mag. <.<

@remus: i drank it. sorry. also i had to use some as a weapon against some pirate zombie robots. exploding rum is the only thing that can kill them you know.
Magravan edit delete reply
@Jamming - !!! You're basing that off of what June said... She already said that before we realized that there was a review because she wasn't happy with her own art this time around....

"Now lets talk art. TOGM is not an artistic masterpiece but I’m OK with that. Its art is great as is. Simplistic yet beautiful. It’s all I could ask from a comic that has more comedy in it than action. Not to mention the wonderful coloring is rich but not over bearing. It’s a perfect mix for the writing."

That's the part of the review related to the art, and it's mostly positive... I guess that's why I wasn't understanding where you guys were coming from... The review itself was far kinder on us than June and I are on ourselves :D

@Lunaris_Starchilde - These probably aren't TOGM brand ;) He's off the grid, and probably makes them himself... It's not like it matters if they are perfect, he's sure not going to get cancer... :D

@Remus - Because of the Navy. Seriously. Rum rations.

@model S - I do! I have been a horrible website guy lately... There's a bunch of things I want to do, I just get side tracked..

And that's no excuse!! Next time you join the zombie pirate robot horde and enjoy the rum with them. I mean, what kind of world are we living in when zombie pirate robots are more sociable than we are?
Magravan edit delete reply
And Model S is now showing in the Live Action section... Sorry for the delay!
Skrael (I'm the artist)
Wow, uncanny resemblance!
Magravan edit delete reply
Yeah, hopefully Jrade sends us a picture with him wearing his shirt, or PixieSingsBass's son if she's okay with that... :D Then at least we'll know that all our readers are not just 1 person with a disguise kit and a LOT of time on their hands :D

The one we gave to Lessum would be awesome either on her or one of their kids :D Especially the youngest, that'd be adorable ;D *hint hint*

@model S - :D

@Albear - See, that's what I said! But you know the Phantom, he's all like "THAT'S NOT HARDCORE! EYEPATCH STAPLED TO THE BACK OF YOUR HEAD IS HARDCORE! GRAAAAR!" .. You know?
hagelander (Guest) edit delete reply
haha, I just noticed the staples, way to go june :p
Magravan edit delete reply
That's funny, I didn't even notice that she'd finally included it :D

Its those blinking green eyes of that poor innocent Avatar, mesmerize me. Artists (Writers) take so much criticism that I hate it and if they feel like her first post implied, I can, but not always get a bit angry. Angry at critics that knock others and don't try to be creative themselves. This may be not very nice of me, but I have a reason, which I won't share in a public forum.
LazyMasterofWeirdness (Guest) edit delete reply
*gasp*! How dare he make Sylene look angry!! What an awful villian...
Magravan edit delete reply
@Jamming - I do see where you are coming from, and don't get me wrong, I love the fact that we have readers who care enough about us to defend us against critics, but June's comment was independent of the critique ;)

All in all, I was actually pretty pleased with it, and felt that it was pretty much all positive... I love Zombie Hunter's art, but it wouldn't fit our setting as well as it does hers...

June's art still has room for improvement, and the past year has shown that she's capable of progressing in leaps and bounds at times, but the art style fits our setting very well. I think that was something that really appealed to me about the critique, that he recognized that the art is the way it is because it fits the setting.

@LazyMasterOfWeirdness - I know, the cad. He simply does not know how to treat a Lady.
